New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Wednesday admitted that women do not feel 'safe' in the national capital.
"Women don't feel safe in Delhi," Dikshit told media.
Dikshit made the comments a day after an electrician attempted to rape a 19-year-old woman at her residence in Lajpat Nagar area of New Delhi on Tuesday.
The attacker reportedly shoved an iron rod down the woman's throat.
Speaking on the incident, Dikshit said: "I am shocked to learn about the Lajpat Nagar attempted case. It is a big setback for us."
The accused, who was arrested on Tuesday, had even worked at the victim's home in the past and lives in the same neighbourhood.
The victim tried to hit the man with the iron rod but was instead injured by the accused.
Her screams alarmed the neighbours, who rushed into her house and moved her to hospital.
The victim is undergoing treatment at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in the national capital.
