Mira Nair made a splash with `Salaam Bombay`, her sensitive debut film on the children of Mumbai`s slums. She missed an Oscar, but fame and other awards, including the Camera D`Or and the Prix du Publique at the Cannes Film Festival, followed. Her next film, Mississippi Masala, won three awards at the Venice Film Festival. Subsequent films include The Perez Family and the Kama Sutra: A Tale of Love, which she directed and co-wrote. But Mira won hearts -- and pockets -- the world over with Monsoon Wedding, a movie shot in 30 days, which tells the a story of a Punjabi wedding.
