Women`s Day Special: NRI/PIO Achievers

Susheela Raman grew up in London and Australia, but her parents made sure she remained rooted to Tamil culture and carnatic music. The rising star boldly uses her sensuous voice to weave the music of India with sounds from her Western upbringing and its European, African and Asian musical influences. She studied classical music and gave recitals at an early age. In 1995, Raman came to India to train under Hindustani vocalist Shruti Sadolikaar. Susheela Raman was a winner in the Newcomer category for the BBC3 World Music Awards.
