New Delhi, Feb 2 (IANS) Self-defence, cyber crime and awareness on laws were some of the issues dwelt upon at a workshop on women's safety here Saturday.

The workshop was conducted by International Institute of Security and Safety Management (IISSM) to make women more vigilant and careful against assault, particularly rape and molestation.

The one-day programme covered many useful tips on women's safety such as awareness about abuse and violence, safety measures to be taken at ATMs, malls and metro stations and how to raise an alarm through mobile and in public when faced with harassment.

The workshop included a three-hour demonstration given to participants on self-defence.

The workshop was attended by working women from corporate houses, students as well as homemakers.

"Our endeavour is to make women equipped to save themselves when faced with adverse situations," R.K. Sinha, executive chairman of the IISSM said.

Inaugurating the workshop, former CBI director R.C. Sharma stressed on the need to be more vigilant against rising assaults on women.

"The fast changing demography of cities like Delhi and Mumbai, floating population and advanced communications are adding to the problem. Changing lifestyle is another factor leading to rising crime graph against women," he said.

Parinika, a student, said: "I felt the need to attend the workshop as it will help me counter the harassment I face daily."
