Aam Aadmi Party formally launched

Social activist turned politician Arvind Kejriwal formally launched his Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on Monday and said it is a result of common man's struggle against corruption.

"The party is a result of the common man´s struggle against corruption," Kejriwal said while addressing a gathering on Monday.

Earlier in the day, he tweeted: "Today is a big day. History in the making. Aam Aadmi comes together to directly jump in politics to throw out this corrupt political system."



23 members of the party´s national executive, which included names like lawyer Prashant Bhushan and Right To Information (RTI) activist Manish Sisodia, were introduced on Monday.

The name of the party, Aam Aadmi Party, was announced on Saturday.

Kejriwal on Sunday was elected as the National Convenor of his Aam Aadmi Party and said that he will spend the next one year touring India to garner support for his outfit.

Kejriwal said he will spend a year trying to convince people on why they should support his party and also "expose" the two leading parties, the ruling Congress and the main Opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

At the first meeting of the 23-member National Executive Committee of the party, Pankaj Gupta was elected national secretary while Krishna Kant will be its treasurer.
