Actor, politician and comedy king Govind Arun Ahuja, popularly known as Govinda or Chichi Bhaiya, turned 49 years on Friday.
Starring in more that 120 films, he has created a niche for himself in the comedy genre.
His contribution to acting along with his much-publicized personal dancing skills, made him a global figure in popular culture during the late 1980s, 1990s and early 2000s among film viewers.
The actor began his career with the movie ´Ilzaam´ in 1986, which was a huge commercial success and topped the blockbuster chart that year.
Govinda tasted commercial success with Shola aur Shabnam and delivered hits like ´Aankhen´, ´Raja Babu´, ´Love 86´, ´Khudgarz´, ´Hum´, ´Haseena Maan Jayegi´, ´Coolie No. 1´, and ´Deewana Mastana´.
Due to his comic timing the actor was considered in the superstars´ list during his reign.
Govinda has received the Filmfare award for best comedian for his role in ´Haseena Maan Jayegi´ and five nominations in Filmfare awards.
After a period of box office flops in the 2000s, he tasted commercial successes once again with ´Bhagam Bhag´ (2006) ´Partner´ (2007) and ´Life partner´ (2010).
He is also a member of the Indian National Congress Party and was elected as the seventh Member of Parliament for the Mumbai North Constituency of Maharashtra, India in the 14th Lok Sabha elections in 2004.
In the 2009 General Elections, he opted out of politics to concentrate more on films, although he continues to have political favour from Congress Party.
