[India], Mar 5 (ANI): Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) terror outfit may be carrying out attacks in the name of his father but Ghalib Guru, son of Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru who was hanged in 2013, is working hard to clear National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) to pursue studies in medicine.
The 18-year-old is also seeking an Indian passport as he feels he may need to go abroad for studies if he is not able to clear the NEET exam.
He has got the Aadhaar card, which he thinks, should make it easier for him to get the passport.
"I am trying (to clear NEET). If I don't succeed, there should be one option. I want to study abroad and hence, I need a passport," Ghalib told ANI on Tuesday at his home here.
"I have an Aadhaar card. I should have a passport too. I am getting a medical scholarship in Turkey. I appeal that I should get a passport. If I get one, I can avail the international medical scholarship," he added.
In January last year, Ghalib made headlines when he cleared Higher Secondary School examination from Jammu and Kashmir State Board of School Education (JKBOSE) with a distinction, securing 88 per cent. He scored 441 out of 500 marks.
His father was hanged on February 9, 2013 for his role in the attack on Parliament in December 2001. Ghalib was just about two years old when his father was arrested in 2002.
Since Afzal Guru's hanging, JeM, a Pakistan-based terror outfit which attacked Parliament, has been carrying out terror strikes in his name, including the latest one in Pulwama.
However, keeping away from this, Ghalib has been pursuing studies to fulfill his father's dream that he becomes a doctor.
Ghalib knows that without a passport, his dream to fulfill medical studies abroad on an international scholarship is a chimera.
He applied for the passport in 2012 but is yet to receive it.
"I applied for the passport in 2012. I went to the passport office and the court. But they are not giving the reason as to why they are not giving me passport. I need a passport as I dropped one year for NEET," he said. (ANI)
