Guwahati, Nov 17 (IANS) The opposition Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) Saturday condemned the ruling Congress in Assam over the ongoing violence in Kokrajhar district in the Bodoland Territorial Areas Districts (BTAD), where earlier in the year over 100 people were killed in Bodo−Muslim clashes.

AGP working president Atul Bora said Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has lost control over the government and also came down heavily on the ruling party for an alleged fake encounter in Majuli Island.

"The arrest of an executive member of the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) Mono Kumar Brahma, who belongs to Bodoland Peoples Front (BPF) − a party partner with the Congress government in Dispur, for possessing illegal arms and ammunition is a clear indication that Congress is involved in the conspiracy behind the violence in the Kokrajhar," Bora said.

"It is shocking that the government has not initiated any strong action in Kokrajhar even after the state police chief had clearly said that there is presence of huge illegal arms and ammunition in the BTAD," said Bora.

A team of police and security forces deployed in Majuli Island in Jorhat district had killed three people and injured two others during an anti−insurgency operation Thursday.

Although the police have claimed one of the deceased as a hardcore Ulfa militant, the locals have termed it to be a 'fake encounter'.
