A couple's months-long effort to hold their wedding at Bay City's James Clements Airport has cleared a final hurdle.
Twenty-nine-year-old Karen Engle and 30-year-old Kevin Holcomb decided they wanted to hold the ceremony at the airport and discovered that getting the needed approvals was a long and challenging effort.
They found they needed Federal Aviation Administration permission, as well as a state and city OK. MLive.com reports (http://bit.ly/16wz8vb ) the City Commission on Monday night approved a special events permit. The ceremony could take place as soon as Saturday.
Holcomb says they're "absolutely ecstatic." He took private flying lessons at the airport, inspiring Engle to suggest the airport venue.
Bay City is charging the couple $942 for airport-related expenses, including use of the facility and security.
