Pune, Apr 7 (IBNS) Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP)leader Ajit Pawar on Sunday shocked the nation with his remarks on the state's drought situtation when he mocked a 55-day-long fast for release of dam water, saying that should people urinate to fill water in dams.

"Somebody, one Deshmukh, is fasting for 55 days. He demands release of water from dams. But there is no water in the dam. Should we urinate in the dams?" said Pawar at a rally at Indapur in Pune and then went on to add that "with no water to drink, one cannot urinate even."

Ajit Pawar also reportedly made another lewd comment connecting lack of electricity to population rise.

Pawar was quoted in media saying that he heard that population in Maharashtra is rising owing to shortag of electricity, hinting that people in darkness have only sex to fall back upon .

He drew flak from opposition like the BJP immediately for his comments.

"This is the lowest of low in Maharashtra politics," BJP leader Shaina NC said.

Maharashtra is reeling under a severe drought situation for a long time now.

Ajit Pawar is the nephew of Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar. Mahrashtra is now ruled by a coaltion of the Congress and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP).
