Right to Information (RTI) activist Akhil Gogoi on Saturday claimed that a journalist, who was off-duty and is employed with the same channel that aired the incident, was present at the spot and involved in the assault on the girl in Guwahati.

Gogoi said the journalist belongs to Newslive channel owned by Assam's Health and Education Minister Hemanta Biswa Sarma

"Today, I screened a raw video footage of the incident. The whole incident was planned by a journalist, who is a reporter in the Newslive channel owned by Assam's Health and Education Minister Hemanta Biswa Sarma. So, we screened six visuals of the incident to show how he was also involved in it," he said.

Gogoi further demanded that the journalist Gaurav Jyotineog should be arrested, and the channel should be blacklisted, taking note of the untoward and shameful incident .

"My first demand is that this journalist should be arrested. The second demand is that this media house should also be blacklisted for they had hidden the exact video footage of the incident. The name of the journalist is Gaurav Jyotineog," he said.

The National Commission for Women (NCW) has sent its team to Guwahati to thoroughly probe the unfortunate molestation of a girl by around 20 men.

A girl was molested on Monday as she was returning home from a party at a bar located in Guwahati's Post Office area.

The incident came to light after an amateur video of the incident was uploaded on YouTube. The video shows the mob, consisting of around 20 men, beating the girl before stripping her.

The shameful act continued for nearly 30 minutes till police arrived and rescued the girl, and handed her over to her parents.

Police later arrested four persons following public outrage over the incident. (ANI)
