Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, who is facing sharp criticism over the alleged involvement of politician Raja Bhaiya in the murder of a deputy superintendent of police in an incident of mob violence, on Wednesday visited Pratapgarh to meet the family members of slain village headman and his brother.

The gram pradhan and his brother were killed along with senior police officer Zia-ul-Haque.

Interacting with media, Yadav promised prompt action in the incident, and added that his government has already ordered a CBI inquiry.

"I have already asked CBI to conduct enquiry. Action will be taken. People shouldn't play politics in this," he said.

He further said:"It is a very sad incident that happened, left many families helpless. We, in government, will support the victims families. I have given Rs.20 lakh to the widows. It know its not enough, but it will help."

Family members of Gram Pradhan Nanhe Yadav and his brother have been demonstrating since Tuesday over a demand that the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister visit them and listen to their grievances.

On Monday, Akhilesh assured that his government would recommend a CBI probe into the killing of Kunda Deputy Superintendent of Police Zia-ul-Haq.

"I agreed to the demands of the protesters and the family of the deceased. The government accepts their demand of a CBI inquiry in the case. I have provided financial aid of Rs.25 lakh each to the father and wife of the deceased," he said after meeting the cop"s family.

Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati on Tuesday alleged that the Akhilesh Yadav-led Government in Uttar Pradesh exemplifies "goonda raj" and that there is an administration of Samajwadi Party (SP) goons in the state.

"The Samajwadi Party Government in Uttar Pradesh will complete an year on 15th of March. But in the one-year of rule so far, the government has failed in every aspect. There is no development and the law and order situation has deteriorated. In true sense, it is the rule of Samajwadi Party goons in Uttar Pradesh now," she told media outside the Parliament here.

Mayawati said no arrests have been made so far despite the FIR being lodged in connection with the cop's killing. "What action has been taken against Raja Bhaiya, just a resignation?" she asked.

Raghuraj Pratap Singh alias Raja Bhaiya, who has been named in the FIR along with four others, has been accused of conspiracy to murder the cop. He has resigned from the post of Food and Civil Supplies Minister in the Akhilesh Yadav's Cabinet.
