The Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) on Friday threatened they would launch a countrywide agitation to demonstrate against the shortening of Amarnath yatra duration from 60 days to 39 days.

The Hindu organization demanded resignation of Jammu and Kashmir governor NN Vohra as chairman of Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB) for curtailing the duration of the yatra (pilgrimage).

The VHP asked for reconstitution of the shrine board.

"The SASB should be reconstituted with members who have full faith in Hindu religion," VHP state chief Ramakant Dubey told reporters.

Dubey called to start the yatra from June 4 instead of June 25, as announced by the shrine board.

The VHP will organize protests from April 16 for the early commencement of yatra.
