Following in Mahatma Gandhi's footsteps, American citizens undertook a peace walk here with the objective of highlighting their opposition to military conscription in America.

American citizens started their meditative walk from Dindoli near Surat.

One of the participants, Jessey Blue Forest, said: "So, the purpose of our walk is calling for one freedom in America that we don't have and that's calling walking for the freedom to be able to choose peace and there is a possibility of our government and its laws calling military conscription again which is a form of slavery and the walk that I am walking is to calling for a national non-violent movement to bring the end to the military draft to our constitutional means."

Forest and another American Sandra Moondancer are on a visit to India to re-enact the 1930 Dandi March of Mahatma Gandhi, and spread their message of peace and brotherhood.

Mahatma Gandhi played a quintessential role in India's freedom struggle by leading protests against the national salt tax with a Dandi Salt March in the 1930, and later in demanding that the British immediately Quit India in 1942 at the height of the Second World War. (ANI)
