Anil Kapoor turns 53

Having travelled from the chawls of Mumbai to the Bollywood film industry and now all set to leave a mark in the Hollywood films, the veteran actor, producer and television host, Anil Kapoor turned 53 on Monday.

Although the actor made his debut appearance in the film ´Hamare Tumhare´ in 1979, he received his first lead role in ´Woh Saat Din´ in 1983.

The veteran actor has been cast in variety of roles from playing a lover boy, comedian, to action hero, mentally challenged protagonist and has even portrayed grey shades of life for different films.

Globally, Anil Kapoor is one of the most recognized Indian actors.

He has appeared in the film ´Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol´ in 2011, sharing screen space with Hollywood star Tom Cruise.

His performance in the much acclaimed and Academy Award winning film ´Slumdog Millionaire´ won him Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture.

After these two successful Hollywood projects and an American TV show, the actor is all set to get into the shoes of Kiefer Sutherland in the Indian version of TV series 24.

Kapoor is also producing the show in which he starred as President Omar Hassan.

He won his first Filmfare Award, in the Best Supporting Actor category, for his role in Yash Chopra´s ´Mashaal´ (1984).

Kapoor earned his first Filmfare Best Actor Award for his performance in N. Chandra´s ´Tezaab´ (1988) and later again for his performance in Indra Kumar´s ´Beta´ (1992).

Films like ´Virasat´ (1997) won him the Filmfare Critics Award for Best Actor, while ´Taal´ (1999) made him win his second Filmfare Best Supporting Actor Award.

The actor also won his first National Film Award for Best Actor for his performance in the film ´Pukar´ (2000).

Kapoor is married to Sunita Kapoor and is the proud father of daughters Sonam Kapoor (now a Bollywood actress), Rhea Kapoor and son Harshvardhan.
