Social activist turned politician Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday reached Salman Khurshid's Lok Sabha constituency Farrukhabad in Uttar Pradesh where India Against Corruption (IAC) is organising a rally against the External Affairs Minister and his wife over charges of embezzlement brought against their trust.
Ahead of the protest, the Uttar Pradesh government has increased security in Farrukhabad.
As many as 600 policemen have been stationed in Khurshid´s constituency for the rally.
According to reports, Kejriwal´s motorcade was stopped by Khurshid´s supporters in Malikpur area near Farrukhabad.
The agitators, who wore "Main hoon Salman Khurshid" caps, waved black flags before the police stopped them from creating further troubles.
According to reports, IAC and Congress workers clashed in Malikpur.
"We are going to the people of Farrukhabad and will ask those who voted for Salman Khurshid to dismiss him," Kejriwal told media earlier in the day.
Kejriwal and Khurshid earlier exchanged barbs over the rally as the Union Minister threatened the social activist from visiting his Lok Sabha constituency.
"Let him (Arvind Kejriwal) come to Farrukhabad. But how will he go back from here?" Khurshid said.
According to the TV network´s report, Khurshids´ Zakir Hussain Memorial Trust had been granted Rs 71.50 lakh by the union social welfare and empowerment ministry for distributing tricycles and hearing aids to the disabled in Uttar Pradesh.
Forging signatures of senior officials in several districts of the state the NGO embezzled funds off the grants and deprived the physically challenged who were eligible for benefits under the scheme.
Both Khurshid, who is the president of the Trust, and his wife Louise -- the project director -- have vehemently denied any wrongdoing even as activist-turned politician Arvind Kejriwal lambasted the couple over the graft charges.
The accusations were used by Kejriwal and his supporters to launch a campaign against the Khurshid and demand his resignation.
