Rio de Janeiro, Feb 9 (IANS) Palmeiras has agreed to sell Argentina international striker Hernan Barcos to Brazilian rivals Gremio.

But the Sao Paulo-based football club is seeking $3 million and up to four players in return for the 28-year-old, reports Xinhua.

"We have a situation which is not necessarily a bad one for us. There are some issues that we have to resolve quickly," Palmeiras executive director Jose Carlos Brunoro said Friday.

It is understood Gremio is willing to part with defender Vilson, midfielder Leo Gago, midfielder Rondinelly as well as strikers Marcelo Moreno and Leandro for the deal to go ahead.

Both Gremio and Palmeiras will play in this year's Copa Libertadores - considered South America's most prestigious club competition - beginning next week.

Barcos is said to have been unhappy about Palmeiras' relegation to Brazil's Serie B this year, fearing a decision to stay could hurt his chances of representing Argentina at the 2014 World Cup.

Gremio, coached by former Brazil and Real Madrid boss Vanderlei Luxemburgo, could not be reached for comment Friday.
