Around 30 % voting in Kashmir

Srinagar/Jammu:: Around 30 per cent voting was recorded till afternoon in south Kashmir, while in Jammu region it was over 40 per cent, touching 60 in Bani constituency, as the fifth phase of assembly elections was underway in Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday, officials said.

Till 2 pm, the percentage in the south Kashmir constituencies was: Tral 35, Pampore 31, Pulwama 28, Rajpora 30, Wachi 27.5 and Shopian 34.

The voting is much higher compared to the overall percentage in 2002 in these constituencies, which then stood at: Tral 11.5, Pampore 19.17, Pulwama 18.13, Rajpora 36.71, Wachi 28.29 and Shopian 26.91.

The voting percentage in the five constituencies in Jammu region was much higher on Saturday.

Till 2 pm, the percentage recorded was: Bani 60, Basholi 46, Kathua 45, Billawar 50, Hiranagar 41.

The overall percentage in 2002 in these places was: Bani 67.63, Basholi 63.15, Kathua 57, Billawar 63.90, Hiranage 60.12.
