Bangalore: Walk in Beauty, an art exhibition by Dr Iris Devadason, began at the Rotary Hall in Coles Park, Bangalore, on Friday.
The three-day exhibition, aimed at raising funds for CURE Clubfoot, an international organization that works to heal children born with this condition, was inaugurated Sri K V Rajana, the Commissioner of Disability, Government of Karnataka. The proceeds of each painting go towards the treatment and care of a child for up to three years.
Dr Devadason, Professor of English, is a socially conscious woman who rekindled her love for art soon after her retirement. And this passion soon found purpose and drive when her student Santosh, Director of CURE Clubfoot India, approached her with this fundraising proposal. For this project she has drawn on her literary influences and passion for art – artists such as Toulouse Lautrec and poet Lord Byron who suffered from clubfoot.
Her repertoire also captures other elements faced by caregivers and those afflicted such as disappointment, sorrow, hope, care, cure, and joy. And these have been captured by a wide range of imagery ranging from trees, birds, and bridges symbolizing limbs and support, and spiritual places mirroring hope.
Walk in Beauty is on show from December 10 to 12 from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
