Arunachal CM meets PM, Chidamabaram in Delhi

Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Nabam Tuki called on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Finance Minister P. Chidambaram at New Delhi separately today.

He was accompanied by a delegation, including Member of Parliament Takam Sanjoy, Minister of Power and RD Tanga Byaling, Minister of Agriculture Setong Sena, Parliamentary Secretaries Gadam Ete and Padi Richo, among others.

Tuki appealed both the PM and FM to consider an additional allocation of Rs.600 crores for the developmental projects in this financial year.

The Prime Minister and the Finance Minister responded positively and assured to look into the matter urgently.

Tuki thanked Chidambaram for giving special attention to the North Eastern Region in the Union Budget presented yesterday.

Terming the budget pro people and growth oriented, the chief minister especially mentioned the initiatives to enhance connectivity of the region with the help of organisations like World Bank, increased allocation for tribal and minority welfare schemes and the allocation for Food Security Mission.

The chief minister opined that with the special focus on agriculture, the eastern region of the country will be able to usher in a second Green Revolution.

He also took note of the landmark initiatives for women empowerment and development of youths in the budget.

Chidambaram assured the delegation that he will personally initiate a special package for the development of roads in Arunachal Pradesh besides allocations for enhancing border trade in the state. (ANI)
