Arvind store opens in Kolkata

Integrated textiles and branded apparel players Arvind Ltd. Friday launched its first Exclusive Brand Outlet (EOB) 'The Arvind Store' in the city.

The store will offer premium shirting and suiting fabrics for the customers and display brands like US POLO Association, Flying Machine and Arrow, making available ready-made as well as customized tailoring options.

"We open our 73rd store in the country and the first in Kolkata as we see a huge opportunity in this state which serves as the principal commercial, cultural, and educational centre of East India," said head-retail (EOBs), Arvind Ltd, P.S. Rajiv.



The store also brings in two concepts, namely, Studio Arvind and Arvind Denim Lab (ADL), where the former serves as custom tailoring unit, the later offers customized washed jeans made to order.

"These provide a choice on fabric, style, fittings, where the customers create and design their own jeans, making them in complete control of what they want to wear. The garment will be available within 10 days. Customers can also bring in old jeans to alter or recreate the styling," said Rajiv.

The brand which is an old name in the segment of Denims and shirting, has also come up suiting options for one and half years, making the same a Rs.4000 crore company.

"Our franchisee contribution is 60% and retail owned contributes to 40%, where 70% comes from fabrics and 30% from garments. We are Rs.600 crore fabric business company yielding a revenue of Rs.5,000 crore from fabrics this year," said Rajiv.

"While we are leading in Denims and shirting section in the market, we look at making Rs.400 crore by next year end with Arvind retail stores."

"We were 26 stores last year and now 73. We want to create 1,600 points across the country and plan to open 100 stores each year, with 20 stores in Bengal alone by the end of this fiscal year," he added.

The company has invested Rs.2,000 per sq.ft with a total of Rs.40 lakh and expects to make a turnover of Rs.100 crore and above on an average.
