Asian: Shooters win one silver, two bronze

Perth, Jan 14 (IBNS) Indian shooters won a silver medal in the women's air rifle event and two bronze medals in the men's double trap and junior women's sports pistol event at the Asian Shooting Championships in Doha, Saturday.

Indian shooters, however, failed to grab Olympic quotas in the the tournament, which is the last qualifying event for the 2012 London Games.

The women´s air rifle team comprising Anjali Mandar Bhagwat, Ayonika Paul and Mampi Das won the silver medal with a total score of 1185/1200. China won the Gold medal with 1187 and bronze went to Iran on 1183.

Anjali and Ayonika had a bad luck as they lost in "Tie Shoot" and had to contend with 9th and 10th position respectively after shooting 396 each out of possible 400.

There were seven shooters at 396 after the qualificiation round and four shooters were to be selected after "Tie Shoot". Mampi Das shot 395 and was ranked at 12th in the final ranking list.

In double trap event, the team of Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore (135), Mohammed Asab (135) and Ronjan Sodhi (134) won the bronze medal.



Due to heavy wind conditions, the scores of all shooters were affected. The highest score of first place shooter in Qualificaition Round was 139/150 and sixth place was at 136.

In sports pistol junior women event, the team of Surabhi Pathak (565), Aanchal Rana (548) and Oshin Tawani (533) won the Bronze Medal.

The gold and silver medals were won by China and Thailand respectively. Surabhi Pathak reached the Finals of Sports Pistol Junior event and was ranked 7th with a final score of 565+147.7.
