Guwahati: Angry protests broke out in Assam on Thursday after Sarabjit Singh's death in a Lahore hospital.

According to report, hundred protesters of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Yuba Marcha of Assam unit protested against the Indian prisoner's death in Pakistan hospital and burned Pakistan national flag at Nalbari town.

Apart from BJP's Yuba Marcha, several organizations protested in Sarbajit's death and demanded to cancel the visa permission to Pakistan nationals.

"The Indian government has been taken necessary action to cancel the visa permission to Pakistan nationals," Niva Medhi, a human right activist said.

Sarabjit was attacked by two other inmates Rizwan and Amir- both death row prisoners- at the Kot Lakhpat Jail, Lahore on Friday last (April 26). He received serious head injuries and was on ventilator, till he succumbed early on Thursday in Lahore's Jinnah Hospital.

Pakistan said Sarabjit had died of a cardiac arrest at around 1-30 am Pakistan time on Thursday.

Sarabjit Singh's family on Wednesday returned to India via Wagah border after meeting him in a Lahore hospital.

The family and associates of Sarabjit had said time and again that they do not trust the Pakistan government on the treatment or welfare of Sarabjit.

Sarabjit has been languishing in Pakistani jail for over 20 years after a Pakistani anti-terrorist court awarded him the death sentence in 1991.

He had been convicted of involvement in a string of bombings in Punjab in 1990 that killed 14 people.
