Auckland: A 25-year-old Indian teacher who was assaulted by the boyfriend of a woman whom he had complimented for her dressing died in a Auckland hospital on Monday, media reports said.
Tarun Asthana, 25, was on life support since the assault early Saturday morning.

Asthana was seriously injured in the head after he fell on the pavement from the attack. He was punched in the face.

His parents were at his death bed.

Meanwhile, New Zealand Herald reported that a 27-year-old has appeared in court in connection with the attack.

"Grenville David McFarland, a Naval rating, appeared before Auckland District Court on a charge of assault. He did not enter a plea and was remanded on bail until November 15.

Police said more serious charges were likely," the paper reported.
