Austrian daredevil plans freefall from the edge of space

London: An Austrian stuntman is preparing to set a record for the highest skydive in history by freefalling from the edge of space -- the stratosphere -- to earth.

Felix Baumgartner, 42, termed it a mission to the "death zone" and said he will be doomed if his world record bid goes wrong.

The Austrian plans to jump unaided by machine from a height of 120,000 feet from a giant balloon over New Mexico, US, this August.

The official website of Red Bull announced Feb. 7, 2012 that Daredevil adventurer Baumgartner and the Red Bull Stratos team are headed to Roswell for the final planning on a 23-mile plunge from outer space.
