Bajrang bandh affects Assam life

Guwahati, Aug 27 (IBNS) Life was affected in Assam during the 12 hour bandh called by the Bajarang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad on Monday to protest the violence in lower Assam.

Five hundred bandh supporters were arrested while supporters burnt tyres and pelted stones in vehicles in different parts of the state.

In Dhubri district, police arrested 300 Bajrang Dal workers, when they burnt tyres and pelted stones to vehicles.

On the other hand, 200 supporters of All Bodoland Muslim Students Union (ABMSU) had blocked railway track at Bijni in Chirang district and demanded scrapping of the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) and arrested its chief Hagrama Mahilary.

All Assam Muslim Students Union (AAMSU) and three other organizations called a 12 hour statewide shutdown on Aug 28.

Meanwhile, six ministers of the state government visited the strife-torn Kokrajhar, Chirang and Dhubri districts and discussed with the district administration the past two days´ violence, where six people were killed and four others injured in Chirang and Kokrajhar district.

More than 2.40 lakh people are still in 238 relief camps in four districts of lower Assam.
