Dehradun: Main markets, schools, colleges, petrol pumps and cinema halls today remained closed here in response to the bandh call by traders to protest against Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in the retail sector.
The busy markets of Paltan Bazar, Chakrata road and Rajpur road were wearing a deserted look due to the bandh call.
However, small shops remained open in most of the places. Schools, colleges and other educational institutes, cinema halls and petrol pumps were also closed.
"The bandh is complete and spontaneous," said Anil Goyal, President of 'Prantiya Udyog Vyapar Mandal'.
He said all the traders of the state are united in their opposition to FDI in the retail sector as it would badly affect the traders and consumers alike.
Meanwhile, police have made strict security arrangements in view of the bandh call and no untoward incident has so far been reported in the state.
