Kolkata: Trinamool Congress workers allegedly chopped off ear of a panchayat employee for not reporting to work yesterday, the first day of trade unions' strike in West Bengal, according to reports.
The victim, identified as Hazrat Omar, said he could not report for work as his house is far from office.
The victim has been admitted to hospital. However, no complaint has been lodged yet.
"They came and started breaking computers and ransacked the office. They attacked me with a knife and in the process mutilated my ear. They were upset because I didn't attend work because of the strike," the victim said to CNN IBN.
West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Chief Mamata Banerjee had warned state government employees against being absent from work during two-day nationwide strike called by 11 major trade unions.
