The HRD ministry has rushed a senior official to take stock of the situation in Bihar's Chhapra city where at least nine students died after eating their mid-day meal at a government school on Tuesday.
A senior official of the ministry Amarjit Singh has been rushed to the spot, the Ministry of Home Affairs said in a statement.
This was stated by the secretary schools R. Bhattacharya in New Delhi on Tuesday evening.
Besides the dead, at least 48 others were admitted to a hospital after they consumed the mid-day meal.
The children, who all are in the age group of 8 to 12 years, reportedly ate ´khhichdi´ in the mid-day meal.
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has ordered an inquiry into the matter.
He also announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakh each to the family of deceased children.
