Bitti Mohanty brought back to Kerala

Kannur: A Kerala Police team brought rape convict Bitti Mohanty to Kannur city in Kerala from Rajasthan on Monday.

Bitti Mohanty will remain in the custody of Kerala Police till Mar 21.

The police confirmed that the arrested Raghav Rajan from Kerala is the fugitive rape convict Bitti Mohanty after matching the finger prints and verifying records in Rajasthan.

The Kerala Police team that took Bitti Mohanty to Rajasthan, where he had committed the crime at Alwar, matched his finger prints in Jaipur jail and confirmed his identity as Bitti Mohanty.

The police also examined records in Rajasthan's Alwar jail to establish the rape convict's identity, reports said.

Bitti Mohanty was convicted of raping a German tourist in 2006 by a fast track court in Alwar in Rajasthan. He later jumped parole and has been absconding since then.

It was alleged that his father helped him escape but the senior cop suspended for the same was reinstated in his job later and he retired from police service in 2012.
