New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party on Saturday boycotted news channel NDTV.
In a press release on its website, the party said, "Tweet being manufactured by a channel in order to hurt BJP is unprecedented. BJP therefore has decided to keep away from panel discussions of NDTV for present."
The reference was to a tweet which the channel falsely published on its website in the name of Sushma Swaraj. The tweet questioned the 'Modi wave' in the country before the general elections and asked why Modi is planning to contest elections from a safe seat when there is a surge of support in his favour.
The channel and its known presenter Barkha Dutt both apologized for the mistake.
While NDTV tweeted, "We apologise for incorrectly attributing a tweet earlier to Sushma Swaraj. The information has been corrected and updated."
Dutt wrote, "Incorrect tweet of @SushmaSwarajbjp was not on TV,it was an error by @ndtv online that based it on other unverified tweets. NDTV apologises"
