Furious over Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde's 'Hindu Terror' remark, the Bharatiya Janata Party on Monday demanded his resignation and unconditional apologies from Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi.
Terming it a 'malicious comment' BJP spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad said: "We condemn strongly the home minister who doesn't know what he is speaking about. We demand Manmohan, Sonia to tender an unconditional apology and Shinde should be sacked."
Criticising Shinde for using the term 'Saffron Terror' while clarifying his statement, Prasad said: "Saffron is the beacon of the country's spiritual heritage. It's on the national flag. How did the Home Minister join this sacred word with terrorism?"
Prasad stressed that they never use 'Muslim Terror' with regard to cross border terrorism, because terror has no religion.
The party has also given a call for a nationwide protest against Shinde on January 24.
On Sunday, Shinde alleged that training camps run by the RSS and BJP were promoting 'Hindu Terror'. He also alleged that the RSS and the BJP were behind the Samjhauta Express, Meccca Masjid and Malegaon blasts.
Later, defending himself, Shinde said that he didn"t say anything new and only spoke about saffron terrorism, which has already been talked about many a times in newspapers. (ANI)
