The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday dispatched relief materials for flood-ravaged Uttarakhand from Lucknow.

While initial reports said the trucks carrying the aid would be flagged off by BJP president Rajnath Singh, the party chief later denied any such ceremony.

Singh on social networking site Twitter said that all state units have been directed by the party not to flag off relief material as it hurts "human sensibilities".

Singh said eight trucks, carrying relief materials and Rs 56,06,994 in cash, collected by BJP´s Uttar Pradesh unit, have been dispatched as a "symbolic gesture from Lucknow to Uttarakhand".

Media reports meanwhile said that more than 100 trucks of relief material dispatched by the Congress, were stranded in Rishikesh as the trucks ran out of fuel.

The trucks, flagged off by Congress President Sonia Gandhi following a splashy photo-op, were allegedly left to ply on their own and there was no coordination from the party or the government.
