Lucknow: A leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) youth wing in Uttar Pradesh has been arrested for shooting a waiter who apparently refused to serve him food inside his car.
Virat Bhadauria, who is the vice-president of the Uttar Pradesh youth wing of the BJP, was allegedly drunk and fled the scene after the incident but was later arrested.
"Those people came in a car and were moving to and fro in it asking for food. We refused to serve them food in the car. They fired from the car. The bullet hit a guy who was standing here," said Rahul Dikshit, the owner of the hotel.
"They went away shouting that his name was Virat. We did not notice any flag but there was a hooter on the car and 'Virat' was written on the back of the car," Dikshit who was also present during the incident said.
"The boy who was hit, his name is Vijay. He works just here," he said, speaking to a TV news channel.
The victim, who was hit in the chest, is currently stated to be in critical condition in a hospital.
The incident comes just a day after a Congress Member of Parliament (MP) from Porbandar in Gujarat was caught on camera threatening employees of a toll plaza in Vadodara city with a gun.
