The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday staged a protest at the Jantar Mantar here and criticized Delhi Police for registering a complaint against Zee News for broadcasting an interview of the Delhi gang-rape victim's friend.
The Delhi Police have filed a case against Zee News for revealing the identity of the gang-rape victim through the interview with her male friend.
The 23-year-old victim's friend, the only eyewitness to the heinous crime, said policemen were arguing over jurisdiction of the crime scene, instead of taking the victims to hospital.
Hundreds of protesters gathered here under the leadership of BJP Delhi unit president Vijendra Gupta, and raised slogans against the Congress-led UPA Government and Delhi Police.
On Saturday, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj had tweeted: "Delhi Police cannot muzzle the voice of citizens by lodging a case against the channel. People have a right to know the truth."
Party general secretary Ravi Shankar Prasad had also said: "Such behaviour from the police is unacceptable. This is an attack on the freedom of the press." (ANI)
