
Visually impaired people played navigators, aiding sighted drivers traverse through the twists and turns of Kolkata in a one-of-a-kind rally on Sunday.
Thirty-two participating cars were flagged off by various guests and celebrities from Kolkata´s South City Mall.
The rally titled "Round Table India - Car Rally for the Blind" was organized by Calcutta Metropolitan Round Table number 42, a local chapter of a world-wide service organization.
Subrata Mukherjee, Minister for Public Health Engineering, Mita Banerjee (IAS) - Disability Commissioner, Jagmohan, Inspector General of Police Traffic, were present on the event.
The blind navigators reading a route map in Braille navigated sighted drivers across an 80 km route.
The drivers were totally dependent on their respective blind navigators to guide them in the route.
It took three hours for all the rally cars to complete the route and cross the finish line at South City Mall.
