London, March 3 (IANS) Princess Beatrice, fifth-in-line to the British throne, will not be performing royal duties for the queen but wants to get an actual job.
The 23-year-old elder daughter of Prince Andrew and the Duchess of York, Beatrice has vowed to make her own way in the world, the Daily Express reported.
Beatrice has been secretly undertaking short periods of low-key work experience and testing out different careers.
Her friends have predicted she will end up working in the fashion industry or in fine arts. The princess graduated last year from Goldsmiths College, London.
As a member of the royal family, palace aides say Beatrice was likely to find more doors open to her than many young jobseekers.
But employers may also be reluctant to take on all the media interest that comes with royals.
Youth unemployment figures are at a high in Britain. One in every four 21-year-olds who graduated in 2011 is out of work, says the Office for National Statistics.
The princess lives in a four-bedroom flat at St James's Palace and receives police protection costing 250,000 pounds a year.
Along with her 21-year-old sister, Princess Eugenie, a student of Newcastle University, Beatrice has joined her mother in working for the Teenage Cancer Trust.
