Chennai: A 26-member delegation from the UK will be in Chennai from 26 to 28 June to explore opportunities for partnerships in healthcare education and training.

The UK delegation will consist of representatives from universities and hospitals across the UK, particularly from schools of health, life sciences, nursing and midwifery, community and child health.

The seminar is being jointly organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), The Training Gateway UK and UK Trade & Investment (UKTI).

In Chennai, the delegation will address a seminar at The Ballroom, Taj Coromandel from 1400 to 1530 hrs on Monday 27 June.

Following the visit to Chennai, the UK delegation will be in Mumbai on 29 June and in New Delhi from 30 June to 1 July.

The UK hopes that the seminar will be used as an opportunity by various medical institutions in India to interact with their counterparts from the UK and come up with mutually beneficial solutions and training programmes which would be used to increase and advance healthcare in the nation.

The UK Minister of State for Trade and Investment, Lord Stephen Green, who visited Chennai recently, said "I am delighted that UKTI is supporting this medical training and education mission to India. With more than sixty new medical and dental colleges and two hundred new nursing colleges planned over the next five years to address the increasing demand for healthcare across India, medical training offers a huge opportunity for collaboration between our universities, hospitals and training colleges."
