The 30-share benchmark index ended 34.58 points lower at 19,305.32 with 17 of its components closings in the red.
The broader 50-share National Stock Exchange (NSE) Nifty index ended 8.90 percent or 97.55 points lower at 5,870.95 on Monday.
Worries over an impending Parliament vote on foreign direct investment in multi-brand retail dampened investor sentiment.
Meanwhile in the New Delhi bullion market, gold rose by Rs 170 to Rs 32,000 per 10 grams while silver fell by Rs 650 to Rs 62,400 per kg.
