The BSE Sensex climbed 0.16 percent on Monday, as select blue chip gains managed to offset concerns ahead a tumultuous winter session of the parliament.
The 30-share benchmark index ended 29.63 points higher at 18,339.00 with 13 of its components closing in the green.
The broader 50-share National Stock Exchange (NSE) Nifty index ended 0.05 percent or 2.65 points lower at 5,571.40 on Monday.
Worries over the government's resolve to continue on a reformist track under Opposition pressure in the parliament weighed down sentiments.
Meanwhile in the New Delhi bullion market, gold climbed by Rs. 25 to Rs. 32, 200 per ten grams while silver gained Rs. 300 to Rs. 61, 400 per kg.
