The BSE Sensex rose 0.07 percent in choppy trade on Wednesday, changing little from a day earlier as investors exercised caution ahead of industrial output data due on Thursday and expectations of watered down quarterly results amid slowing growth.
The 30-share benchmark index, ended 10.77 points higher at 16,175.86, a day after rallying more than 350 points to its highest close in a month, with 16 of its components closing in the green.
The broader 50-share National Stock Exchange (NSE) Nifty index ended 0.24 percent or 11.40 points higher at 4,860.95 points on Wednesday.
Software services firms Infosys and Tata Consultancy Services dipped sharply in the day over concerns of a possible cut in results forecast for the fiscal year ending Mar 31, while retailers' stocks surged after a government move to allow more foreign investment.
