The BSE Sensex rose 0.22 percent on Tuesday, as caution prevailed over a key Parliamentary vote even as undervalued stocks sailed on bargain buying.
The 30-share benchmark index ended 42.80 points higher at 19,348.12 with 19 of its components closing in the green.
The broader 50-share National Stock Exchange (NSE) Nifty index ended 0.31 percent or 18.30 points higher at 5,889.25 on Tuesday.
Hopes of monetary easing by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) later this month helped boost investor confidence while positive news flow helped some heavyweight stocks.
Meanwhile in the New Delhi bullion market, gold fell by Rs 120 to Rs 31,880 per 10 grams while silver held steady at Rs 62,400 per kg.
