The BSE Sensex rose 0.30 percent on Friday as blue chip stocks recovered from post-budget declines after sentiments stabilised.
The 30-share benchmark index ended 56.98 points higher at 18,918.52 with 16 of its components closings in the green.
The broader 50-share National Stock Exchange (NSE) Nifty index ended 0.47 percent or 26.65 points higher at 5,719.70 on Friday.
Traders welcomed a clarification by the finance ministry that favoured foreign investors while oversold stocks posted gains.
Meanwhile on the New Delhi bullion market, gold fell by Rs 165 to Rs 29,985 per 10 grams while silver lost Rs 515 to Rs 54,750 per kg.
