Border Security Force's (BSF) South Bengal Frontier Wednesday organized a free surgical rectification of cleft lip and palate under the banner of Border Security Force Battalion Wives Welfare Association (BWWA), here.
Under this initiative free surgeries were extended for rectification cleft lip and palate especially for Border population.
Through the strong presence of BSF in the remotest areas, cases were identified and moved to the chosen surgical points for surgery.
BSF stated that cleft cases are found abundance specially in remote areas where the concentration of poorer people is higher.
Compounded with lack of education and superficial believes, the cases are often left untreated.
On an estimate, in eastern India alone, there are more than 1 lac cases remaining to be rectified., BSF noted.
Post the life changing surgery, the person can live a normal main stream life devoid of any social boycotts stigmas.
A basic cleft lip surgery would cost in between Rs. 40 to 50 thousand and the same is being provided to cases identified under this project totally free of cost in collaboration with NGO Smile Train.
The Cleft Lip surgery camp was inaugurated by President of BWWA Sudha Joshi.
The entire project was conducted by Border Security Force team, led by IPS, Inspector General, Border Security Force, South Bengal Frontier, Santosh Mehra who is also the guiding force behind such an initiative of the Border Security Force under this civic action programme.
