BSF repatriates Bangladeshi fisherman

The Border Security Force (BSF) on Monday said its patrolling party of BOP Shamshernagar on Saturday apprehended one Bangladeshi fisherman when he entered Indian territory while fishing.

The apprehended Bangladeshi fisherman was brought to BOP Shamshernagar for preliminary questioning.

During questioning, he revealed his identity as Saifikul Islam (28) of Gaji, village - Koikhali, PO-Saikhali, PS-Shyamnagar, Dist-Satkhira, Bangladesh.

He also revealed that he was fishing near the zero line and crossed inadvertently.

On Sunday morning a letter was received from 34 BGB (Border Guard Bangladesh), Koikhali BOP to conduct a flag meeting for repatriating Islam..

A company commander level flag meeting was held at about 1150 hrs.

Company commander BSF appraised BGB company commander that Bangladeshi fishermen neither carry BD national flag nor paint their boats with Bangladesh flag for identification.

He also apprised that fisherman crossed into Indian territory which is a violation of international law.

In turn BGB company commander assured that no such incident will take place in the future and requested to hand over Bangladeshi fisherman.

At the request of the BGB company commander and as a gesture of goodwill between two countries, the Bangladeshi fisherman was handed over to the company commander, BOP Koikhali, 34 BGB.
