BSNL disconnects broadband links in Darjeeling hills

Kolkata: BSNL has started disconnecting broadband links in Darjeeling hills, a year after people in the hills stopped paying their bills.

The residents of the hills stopped paying their electricity and telephone bills from April 1, 2008, following a call from the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha to boycott taxes and levies to the government as part of its non-co-operation movement for statehood.
