Burundi President to visit India

New Delhi, Sept 13 (IBNS) The President of the Republic of Burundi, Pierre Nkurunziza, will pay a State Visit to India from September 17-19 at the invitation of Indian President Pranab Mukherjee, said the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Thursday.

He will be accompanied by his spouse Denise Bucumi Nkurunziza.

The President´s delegation also includes the Ministers of External Relations and International Cooperation, Agriculture and Livestock, Energy and Mines, and Commerce and Industries besides senior Government officials.

On September 18, Nkurunziza will meet Mukherjee and Vice President Hamid Ansari, and hold discussions on bilateral,regional and international issues of mutual interest with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

During the visit, Minister of State for External Affairs Preneet Kaur will call on the President of Burundi.

Nkurunziza will also address a business meeting jointly organised by ASSOCHAM, CII and FICCI.

"Relations between India and Burundi are close and friendly. India is engaged with Burundi in capacity building and infrastructure development programmes bilaterally and through the India Africa Forum Summit process," said the MEA.

The visit of Nkurunziza is expected to lead to a further development of bilateral relations between India and Burundi, said the MEA.
