Buyers, sellers and tourists gather at Bateshwar in UP as cattle fair kicks off

Nine-day long Bateshwar cattle fair kicks off in Bateshwar, Uttar Pradesh, which attracts buyers, sellers and tourists in large number.

Bareshwar cattle fair is one of the largest fairs in north India, accommodates large numbers of camels, horses, oxen, elephants, goats, and other cattle, as well as traders selling traditional cooking utensils, furniture, handicrafts and cosmetics. The fair acquaints the people with a colorful and vibrant glimpse of rural Indian life.

Buyers from across India, including Gujarat, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab and Rajasthan have gathered to buy horses, camels and other animals at Bateshwar, which is famous for its 101 Shiva temples in a row along the River Yamuna.

"Bateshwar fair is the biggest fair in the north India, like Sonepur and Pushkar fair. As compared to other fairs, most quantity and variety of livestock is brought to this fair. This fair is decades old and is being organised from the time of our father and grand father and is very famous across India," said a horse trader, Ganesh Yadav.

"Trading of cattle will take place in huge numbers and the price is too high for horses ranging from 4 lakh to 5 lakh," said another horse trader, Kalyan Singh.

This fair usually starts few days prior to the festival of Diwali and concludes with special ceremonies in the temples on the banks of River Yamuna. (ANI)
