Campaigning for assembly elections in Punjab and Uttarakhand ended on Saturday evening, less than 48 hours before voters in the two states will exercise their franchise.
A total of 788 candidates are in the fray for the 70 member assembly in Uttarakhand. A total of 7,500 personnel of central paramilitary forces, besides 10,000 home guard jawans from Uttar Pradesh, 2000 from Himachal Pradesh and 10,000 from Uttarakhand Police have been deployed to ensure free and fair elections in the state.
Similar security arrangements have been put in place for polls in Punjab, where voters will choose 117 member assembly. (ANI)
