Catholic League president Bill Donohue has suggested that President Barack Obama should swear in with 'Das Kapital', Karl Marx's famous analysis of political economy, rather than the Bible.
Donohue's comments have been published as a response to recent remarks made by MSNBC's Lawrence O'Donnell about the controversy surrounding Pastor Louie Giglio.
Giglio had been selected to deliver the benediction at the President's inauguration, but had withdrawn the proposal after coming under fire for an anti-gay sermon he delivered in the mid-1990s.
According to the Huffington Post, during his MSNBC show on Thursday, O'Donnell discussed the Giglio controversy and defending his anti-gay remarks said that the Georgia pastor had 'quoted the Bible' and that 'homosexuality is a sin in the Bible'.
O'Donnell went on to say that the swearing in of presidents on the Christian holy book is 'one of our more absurdist traditions' and suggested that Obama should perhaps swear in 'on the shoulder of one of his daughters' instead, the report added. (ANI)
